Meta Length Checker
Check your SEO title and meta description against Google’s display limits — with live character counts, pixel-width estimates, and a search preview.
About this tool
Google truncates titles at about 600 pixels (roughly 50–60 characters) and descriptions at about 920 pixels on desktop (roughly 155–160 characters). Truncated snippets end mid-sentence with an ellipsis and lose clicks.
Pixel width matters more than character count: "W" is about four times wider than "i". This tool estimates rendered width per character so a title full of wide letters warns you before Google cuts it.
The preview below approximates a desktop search result. Keep your primary keyword near the front of both fields, and give every page a unique title and description.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your text is never uploaded, stored, or shared.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ideal title tag length?
50–60 characters. Google truncates at ~600 pixels, and titles under 60 characters fit about 90% of the time. Front-load the keyword — truncation cuts from the end.
What is the ideal meta description length?
150–160 characters for desktop. Google sometimes shows longer snippets on mobile or rewrites them entirely, but 155 characters is the safe target for controlling your own message.
Does Google always use my meta description?
No — Google rewrites descriptions for a majority of queries, pulling page text it considers more relevant. A well-written description still wins for your primary queries and controls social-share previews.
